Macon Vergisson AOC (Bourgogne), Domaine Barraud, La Roche, 2018. Chardonnay. Vinification in wood barrels
The Pouilly–Fuissé and Vergisson areas of Bourgogne were long waiting for the official recognition of their top-quality terroirs - and this most deserved recognition could not come at a better time – in September 2020 the French National Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO) granted the Premier Cru classification to 22 climats within the region. It is important to mention that this is the first time since 1943 that a new Premier Cru level is recognized in Bourgogne.
Domaine Barraud is a long-time producer of the finest wines in the region and it is not a surprise that four of his climats were included in the INAO list. Their current vines on the Macon-Vergisson “La Roche” climat have been producing remarkable wines for more than 35 years.
As common in wines of this quality, any description will fall short in conveying the pleasure of tasting the beautiful finesse of this mineral Chardonnay.
